Great location and atmosphere but the food just didn't sit well with me. I had the fish and chips which were "so so" and left a strange after taste. Maybe the grease was old! |

Took my wife there on a date and it was the worst place we have ever attempted to eat in our 10 year marriage. This place should be called the Golden Flyon because of the unbelievable amount of flies that were buzzing on the outside deck. So much so that we had to demand to be seated inside. Once we received our food it was cold and tasteless, and the drinks were warm. Stay away! |

Went last night with my girlfriend and was appalled by the cleanliness of the restaurant. The food was just average and the staff was not too friendly. The bartender was nice and made a great long island. But please get a little bleach and clean the place up, it would do wonders. I use to go there years ago before I moved away and it has gone downhill since then, think they have new management now that does not care. A real shame for just a cute place on the beach. |

Wow, maybe I was at a different Golden Lion than the past few reviewers.
I live in Flagler Count y & travel the southeast coast of U.S. extensively on business.
Have eaten at many "beachy" seaside restaurants and expect casual fare & atmosphere. But I actually expect to GET my food, not have my party (of 4) ignored (no service AT ALL for the first 15 minutes there)...and the place was not busy. Staff busy chatting with obviously "favorite" customers. Finally flagged down a server, and 45 minutes later (!!!) recieved fish & chips that were greasy and cold. Other party members had mediocre fish, and a really limp salad. The hamburger was good (not great) but again, the fries were cold and greasy. We never had our drinks refilled, although the place was 1/2 empty. I'd tried the place once before, in 2006, but had bad service and bad food then. Thought I'd try again since the reviews were better -- but NEVER again. Snack Jacks or the Fisherman's Net, both on A1A are much better choices. |

My brother works next door running the machine shop for Carquest. So, I stopped by to see him and decided to take him out for lunch at the Golden Lion..What a neat place it is.... stick to your ribs food and very friendly people. All of the staff kept stopping by to say hi and the food was very good. Service was excellent! Great job! |

The last few times that I have had the chance to stop into the Lion, everything has been great! No wonder they have won so many awards. The food has really gone from good to great in the last couple of years and consistency in product is a given. The G.L. has been my "watering hole" for many years and it just keeps on getting better all the time. Keep up the great work gals and girls! |

I have been coming to the Golden Lion for years and have definitely seen a lot of improvement! The food has definitely bumped up a notch or two in the last year or so... kudos to the kitchen. I always sit on the top deck where the view is absolutely amazing, best in town. Service upstairs isn't as quick as most want, but you know that those girls have to run up and down the stairs to get drinks from the bar, and the food, for every table up there, but they are always very friendly and attentive over all. who can complain anyways with that type of atmosphere? patience is a virtue in my book. Awesome entertainment on the weekends and fair prices. I will not break the chain of going there and is highly recommended to anyone who is visiting, to go the best beachside restaurant in Northern Florida.I love the Golden Lion! |

This is one of our favorite spots. We love the Lion! We get the fish and chips almost every time as it is absolutely amazing....huge portions and I love their key lime cocktail sauce! Our other favorite is the well-known Tiki Cooler - a must try! If you're looking for the best spot on the beach, try the Golden Lion! |

About half the time that we have gone to the Golden Lion, we feel like the "invisible people". We stopped in Saturday night, 5/3/08 about 9:00pm. It wasn't very busy, a few full tables, we seated ourselves at an empty table, and waited for almost 10 minutes, no one came by to see if we would like to order, though a waitress walked right by us about 5 times to wait on other tables and never gave us a look. My husband went up to the bar and ordered drinks and brought them back to the table, (should I tip him?). We drank our drinks, it took us about 10 to 15 minutes, still no one came to the table. We decided to go somewhere else to eat since it was obvious that they didn't want or appreciate our business. It's such a good location but such a shame that customers are treated this way. This will be our last visit to Golden Lion. |

Great place to take in the sun and some music on the weekends. The food and service are very good. It appears that the nature of the surroundings is to relax and enjoy the Flagler Beach ocean location and not to be in a rush to eat and run. They have the best Fried Fish platter and Sandwich in the area. The Fish Tacos are to die for as well. The Chef puts out some thoughtful specials on the daily special board. The drinks from the bar are awesome and the service staff is always friendly. Don't miss this wonderful Flagler Beach landmark known as the Golden Lion Cafe. |

Great Place to eat. We love to go to the top and feel the ocean breeze, watch the boats, dolphins, pelicans. The food has always been good. The prices are reasonable. They also have some good music and if you want to stay a bit late you can party and have some great drinks. The manager Julio is always their and greets you with a smile. He is great. Our favorites are the fish tacos, shrimp wraps and fish and chips. Oh, their burgers are yummy too. |

The only thing going for "The Lion" is the location. My beer was served warm, very unacceptable. When I complained about the warm beer, they offered to ice it down. The food was mediocre at best. Normal fried bar food and frozen seafood. You would think with the close proximity to the ocean that fresh seafood would be a given. Not here. Many locals frequent the Lion, which is probably why it stays open. The Lion needs a face lift. It's decor is outdated, rusty, corroded, and moldy. The bathrooms smell like a high school locker room after a homecoming game. |

Last week, our party of 7 were looking for a place to eat. We ended up at the Golden Lion and boy, were we impressed. Everyone had the fish and chips, which they said were excellent. I had the quesadillas which were awesome. More food than we could eat. Great prices. Only draw back was the red tide, no fault of the restaurant though. We sat outside and really enjoyed chatting while eating. No music that night, which was fine with us. We will definitely go back. |

We took my parent's here when they were down visiting in Sept. 2007. We had the fish and chips, it was excellent. Flakey, not greasy fresh tasting fish and fries. The best fish and chips I have ever had. My husband had the shrimp Poboy sandwich, it was as well, excellent. Great view, service is ok, but the food was great! We will definitely take visitors there again. |

The Golden Lion seems to lack any kind of consistency. One day the fish and chips are wonderful with large flakey fish cooked to perfection with fresh chips, and other days they look and taste like they have been fried 10 times and the chips are soggy and awful. Service is hit or miss too. If you get a good day, you'll love this place, if it's bad day, just enjoy the view! |

This is a good place and my wife and I come here at least every other week. It's not fine dinning and is just a beach place! The food is very good and never had a bad fish-n-chips. It's always cooked from fresh and is crispy. Food has been more consistent the last 6 months or so. It's a good beachside eatery with nice music outside and nice atmosphere. Just take it for what it is. |

The Golden lion is a nice beachy place. We have been comming here for quite some time and this is my first review. Nice atmosphere, cool, outdoorsy... a little trouble with quick service but if you come here you shouldn't be in a big rush anyway. Enjoy the music and eat. The food has become more consistent and flavorful plus the soups are better now, too. Over all better. Someone in the back must be stepping it up a little. New chef maybe? The only bad thing is that wish there could be air conditioner outside! |

I was so embarrassed that we decided to go to the Golden Lion about a month ago when my son and his new wife were here visiting. In fact it was Father's Day weekend and my son wanted to treat my husband and told him to pick anywhere he wanted to go. We don't go out much, (obviously, or we would not have picked this place), so after going online and looking through the yellow pages, my husband thought this place sounded fun, casual, and had live entertainment, which we were all looking for.
Well, it definitely was casual, and had a live girl singing who was pretty good, and we sat up top so the breeze was great, as I am always hot. Also fun to see the ocean. So, if that is ALL you want for a night out, then go, but if you want more to eat than cheaply made, bar type food, DON'T GO. And you definitely don't want to waste your money on drinks. I lived in Savannah for 15 years and had many friends that were bartenders, my son worked in several restaurants during high school and college years, and has been a bartender, and these were the worst, most watered down drinks any of us have ever had. We even complained and asked for "double shots" in our next round, and what we got was a bigger plastic cup, with the same weak amount of alcohol. I didn't see what the price was of each drink, as my son paid, but whatever it was, it was too much.
I ordered the"New York Strip" which came cut up in thin, bite sized pieces, (so who knows if it was even a steak), smothered in sauce to try to make it taste good, it was about 6-7 bites, with some steamed vegetables and cost 17.99..... my son, his wife, and my husband, had fish and chips that looked like it came out of a box of "Gorton's Fisherman" that you buy in the store. I was so embarrassed as I said, that I spent the whole night apologizing to my son and his wife of 3 months. We will NEVER go again. And I have never taken the time to write a review before, but HAD to try to spare some of you from going here if I can. I meant to write it a lot sooner, but guess I was waiting to get the "bad taste out of my mouth"! |

I'm sure it's temporary, but the Golden Lion seems a bit tarnished. I've been there many times, but hadn't visited for about a year. Apparently the menu recently changed, and instead of great new additions, you immediately get the sense that they're having a hard time adjusting to it.
With two visits in since the change of the menu, the food isn't as good as it was. And to make matter worse, the new menu isn't accurate. Take the nachos for instance. I despise "Squeezy Cheese", so I was happy to read on their new menu that their nachos are made with Jack. I ordered a plate, and sure enough... The cheese was squeezed all over the place, and not a stitch of Jack to be found. Apparently this isn't the only instance, and the new menu already has a few spots where they've had to black out parts of item descriptions as a result of inaccuracies.
We had the nachos and the fish & chips. There was something strange about the fish, and beyond my previous complaint about the nachos, they were delivered in under 2 minutes, cold.
The staff are nice, although less familiar with the new menu than they should be, and I would probably prefer it if they didn't make the effort and went back to what they were. Or at least cooked from the menu and resolved whatever is going on, or not going on in the kitchen.
In a sea of many beachside blunders, the Golden Lion has always shone brightly as a spot where one could expect consistent simplicity. It's not "fine dining", but it has always been great for burgers and sandwiches, etc, and with entertainment, and that view... I love the view... C'mon! I want my Golden Lion shinny again. :) |

First time at the Golden Lion - went Sunday 4/28. They were very busy so we excused the over-sights .
It's a great place for smokers because they have a large outside dining area, but that forces non-smokers inside. I had a fried oyster sandwich that had a surprise on every 3rd bite. The breading was unevenly coated so I would get a flavor burst of what tasted like Old Bay seasoning. A large portion of fries served with the sandwich but they were of such poor quality that I did not eat them. That was good because I shouldn't be eating them anyway, but it did make me wonder why when the fries are such a big part of the platter the owners would not buy a higher quality . They should check with the owner of the diner where he buys his.
The manager has a pleasant and friendly manner. |

It makes me sad to write this review as I have always loved the Golden Lion, but I really fear it has gone down hill a lot lately. Today, my family and I were all disappointed with our meals. In particular, the fish and chips were not up to their old standards with the fish having a very odd texture and a strange taste. Service was friendly but drink refills took a long time. If anyone from the Lion ever reads this, please don't let your restaurant slide. It has been main stay in the area and I hope this is just a passing phase. |

When I went to the Golden Lion I really enjoyed the oceanview. However, some other things were left to be desired. For starters I found that the servers were not very attentive. They spent more time talking with each other and when you asked them for something they made you feel like you were imposing on their busy schedule. Our drinks from the bar were watered down, my guess is from sitting too long waiting to be delivered. As for the food it was okay. The food was sent out at different times and it was warm. I found the food to just be okay nothing special about it. But then how hard is it to really screw up fish and chips and a burger. It is a shame that the best oceanview restaurant in town would allow its establishment operate like this. Its the location that mainly supports this place. |

I would usually give this restaurant 4 stars, but today it earns only 3 because it really was not up to its previous standards. Service was friendly and attentive, but I felt he was covering for the kitchen way too much. Some items not available after we ordered them. Then the food came out at different times so my wife finished her appetizer before I even received mine. We both had fish and chips, where the fish was very good but the chips were really bad. Hopefully this was an off day and not a new [low] standard. |

Last Monday we had our company Christmas party here. Let me start off by saying that the crew Tony has here are awesome! Julio made all the arrangements for the food which was fantastic, and no easy feat feeding 35 hungry people! Adam and a few others kept their eyes on our party and made sure that we had whatever we needed.
Every time that we go here the place is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is great. Thanks again Tony and his wonderful staff for making our Christmas party one to remember! |

I do not believe that I have ever been to a place of business where the STAFF ran the place! No manager, only a "shift leader"?! First we waited 15 minutes before a server even came to our table, then we had to wait another 10 minutes for our drinks. 10 minutes for 2 draft Stella's? The bartender clearly couldn't be bothered by the servers standing there waiting for him to stop talking and get their drinks. No team work whatsoever! The final straw came when not only did our food come out COLD, but my husbands order was wrong. When we asked one of the few servers to come to our table and asked to speak to the manager, we were told there was none, only a shift leader. Who runs this place? A bunch of high schooler's? We will never spend our money there again. BEWARE if you ask me. |

It has been about three months since we went to the lion to eat. We went friday night and I was surprised. The server, I can't remember her name, who wore glasses was good, very aware of the table. The tiki coolers were still great. But the food was surprising. We found that the food has lost its flavor since the last time. I found the provencal sauce not to taste the same and it could have been warmer. My husbnd was not impressed with his dinner either. We were very disappointed that the food just did not taste the same. Also we were very surprised that the we did not see the same faces that we use to. When we use to come we would see the same employees which was always a comfort. I think we are going to wait a while before we go back to give the new staff a chance to get there things in order. |

Be aware that there is smoking allowed, so make sure you get a table someplace where you won't be near it if that bothers you. Great place to take friends, talk, listen to music, drink and enjoy food and the view. |

I went there with my family to eat last weekend. I had the best time. The music was okay. Our server, Shay, was awesome. She made our night enjoyable. She was very informative about the specials. She recommend the shrimp appetizer and it was awesome. She had a wonderful personality and is very attentive at what she does. The food was awesome! Complements to the chef. Everyone was great, even the other servers, checking to see if everything was okay or if we needed something. We come down every year for vacation but this was the first time that the food and service was excellent. Every other time one thing may be good but something else needed improvement. Hats off to this wonderful staff! See you next year! |

The food at the Golden Lion is very good, however the restaurant in the summer is very hot and uncomfortable. It has no air conditioning inside and is miserably stuffy during the day. If there's a breeze then outside is your best choice. |

Went to eat here yesterday, the food was good, the service was great until after we got our food and then it took about a half an hour to get our check. This place had an awesome atmosphere, we ate on the roof and had the most gorgeous view, probably one of the best out of the beach style restaurants I have been to since living in Florida, that is what I am sure will be bringing us back. |

We were in the PC area for a week and stopped in at GL 3 times. The food was better than we expected it to be. Fish/chips... and a shrimp pasta salad was excellent.
Service was uneven to say the least. Twice we sat at the bar after watching the outside tables totally ignored by the kids working there. Sadly, the bartender was no better (Robin C.). Took forever for her to acknowledge anyone coming up to the bar. We watched as she proofed a young lady, took her order then proceeded to move to the other end of the bar,
not to return for 10 minutes. She then asked the girl "what was it you wanted again?"
This was the week after bike week, so maybe everyone was a little shot. However, we don't think so.
This place could be a gem. Location, location, location. Get a pro to handle the service staff and find a real bartender. |

My wife and I had the same experience on 3-18-06 as Hospitality Pros did on 3-21-06. I have been to this restaurant many times before and have always had good food, good fun and good service. Well this time we were so DISAPPOINTED what happen to the experienced and mature bartenders??? We were COMPLETELY ignored by the children running the bar. We ordered chicken wings which came with mayo instead of blue cheese when I asked the bartender if that was normal she argued with me that is was not mayo and that it was in fact blue cheese. So I stuck my finger in it tasted it in front of her and said NOPE that is mayo!!! Then the attitude came, she went and got us some blue cheese and from that point on we never received any more service, not even a Would you like another drink? Is everything ok? Would you like anything else "NOTHING"... We asked for the check which came with no "thank you". My wife is a manager of a local restaurant and felt she should notified the manager on the way out.
I guess customers feedback is not important because we got a very cold "sorry" and a I can't be bothered with your complaint attitude. Please fix this! |

Ate the best fish and chips in town. Loved sitting right across from the ocean. There were ten of us and 7 had the fish and chips. One of my friends had a steak which was a little rubbery but from experience, you don't order beef at fish restaurants. Also the desserts need a big improvement. The chocolate cake was very dry and served with non-dairy topping, not whipped cream and their crème brulee had a strong coffee taste. Again, not a place for desserts but for good fish. Shay, our waitress was great. |

Had the special for lunch yesterday, a nut encrusted grouper. The portion was huge and the flavor was excellent. This is a great seaside restaurant with a fun and relaxing atmosphere and good food and service. |

I went there for lunch last week and I ordered the 1/3 lb burger done medium . If it was over 1/8 lb I'd be lucky and it was as well done as shoe leather. Went to Friends Cafe across from the police station and had a much better lunch |

This past weekend was the first time I had been in a few months. The last time I went I was a little disappointed with the a few things there. However, this past weekend I went to give another try and I was very pleased to see the great improvements. It seems that they have new chefs that recently started and the value of the food has greatly improved. Our server was pleasant and informative of new events happening throughout the week. |

Last night's service by the wait staff was incredibly disappointing! It's definitely going to be a while before I revisit one of my favorite establishments. The view, of course, cannot be ruined but after a week of long hours and wanting to relax with friends, I didn't need the haggle with the wait staff of reminding her that we ordered another "round" and also have to wait while she refigured our checks. As I was sitting there, I also saw a couple at a nearby table get up in leave after no one acknowledged them. Poor and sad! |

I go there a couple of times a month. The wait staff is friendly, the food is always good and what is not to love about a place on the beach. It is great, they don't take themselves too seriously and it seems to me like they have just as a good a time serving you as you do eating there and being with friends.
Fish n Chips are good. I always enjoy going there. |

5/15/05 Poor Poor Poor!!! Prices have increased. Less food for your money. Do not have shrimp casidas anymore. They do NOT have crabs legs as an appetizer anymore. $17.00 for crab dinner comes w/fries or mash potatoes NO veggies or salad. This is extra. No BUD Light. Chilled HA-HA shrimp was warm and had ice thrown over the shrimp and came with BLACK HAIR!! UGH UGH UGH. No MUSIC no even a radio station. We felt really bad for the waitress. WILL NOT GO THERE AGAIN. It used to be a favorite of yours. TOO SAD! |

Went to eat there last night and we were told it would be a 2 hr. wait for food and the place wasn't even crowded. The staff was very rude. They had a band put people couldn't dance because the dance floor was filled with little kids playing with sand buckets. The owner told us they want to be like McDonalds play land. |

I DON'T WANT TO SOUND LIKE I AM PUTTING THE PLACE DOWN. I ENJOY GOING THERE ALOT.
THE PLACE IS NICE. AND THE FOOD IS GOOD MOST OF THE TIME ALTHOUGH THE LAST FEW TIMES I GOT WINGS THEY WERE NOT DONE INSIDE. AND THE SEVERS THAT IS ANOTHER STORY THEY DON'T CARE I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY.IT SEEMS THAT THE RUNNER "KIDS" PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE TABLE THEN THE SEVERS MAYBE THEY SHOULD GET THE TIP!!!!! GET BETTER SEVRERS AND THIS COULD BE THE HOTTEST SPOT!!!!!!!
ALL IN ALL ITS NICE JUST GET THE FOOD TO GO AND HAVE THEM DOUBLE COOK THE WINGS. |

I find this place to be all around fun and enjoyable!!! Everyone should give it a shot. |

The waitresses there was polite, especially the young girl. But, I didn't like the steamed oyster that was covered by the spinach, the oyster was tiny. The the fried grouper finger was tasteless with lots of flour. |

I used to like going here, but the last time we went, it was the wifes birthday and we stopped in at 3 in the afternoon for a beer and a burger. The place was almost empty, with more staff than patrons, but we were studiously ignored, even after stopping two other waitresses to see if htey would take our order. Both replied it wasn't their table. After 25 min. we left and haven't been back since.
